Creative Salmon
understands that more research is needed to help us operate more
effectively and to have less of an impact on our surroundings. We
conduct our own research programs and, in addition, we have opened our
farm sites to research programs by the federal and provincial
governments.
In particular, work has been done regarding:
· broodstock
· fish health
· feeding technologies
· benthic impact and recovery
· sources of natural pigments
· new harvesting technologies
As of
November 15, 2004 Creative Salmon has switched to a state of the art flow
through fish stunning system. The
fish are pumped aboard the harvest vessel using an air uplift system,
onboard, they are kept in water then down a channel where they are
stunned. This method is considered a more humane approach for the
harvesting of fish and as a result also improves the quality of the
product.
