Creative Salmon Events for 2005

December 21, 2005
Creative Salmon helps fund a trip to Vancouver organized by the Tla-o-qui-aht First Nations and the local detachment of the RCMP. Between Christmas and New Years, 15 kids and 5 chaperones will travel to Vancouver for a first hand look at life on the streets of the downtown East side. The intention of the trip is to "open the eyes of our youth to the pitfalls of drug and alcohol addition".

December 19, 2005
Creative Salmon donates to the "Gumboot Toy Drive", an initiative spearheaded by the Tla-o-qui-aht First Nations. The goal of the toy drive is to help underprivileged families provide Christmas gifts for their children.

Creative Salmon donates door prizes for the Christmas Gala event being held at the Wickaninnish Interpretive Center in Pacific Rim National Park. The event was jointly held by the Tofino Business Association, the Ucluelet Chamber of Commerce and the Pacific Rim Visitor Center.

Creative Salmon provides a "Corporate Table Sponsorship" at the Starlight Extravaganza dinner held at the Shelter Restaurant in Tofino. Proceeds from the event go to the Tofino Hospital Foundation to buy new hospital equipment.

Creative Salmon presents an authentic First Nations ceremonial mask to a very special customer in honor of their 150th Anniversary in the seafood industry. The intricate mask was carved by local Tla-o-qui-aht artist Levian Martin and is a beautiful piece of West Coast Native Art.

Creative Salmon helps 17 year old Alanda Atleo of Tofino BC in her efforts to raise money for a trip to Mexico in March 2006. This is no ordinary vacation to Mexico! Alanda will be part of a group of 23 teenagers and adults from the West Coast Young Life group who are going to Tijuana, Mexico to build houses for needy families The group will be working with the Amor Ministry in Tijuana. Dr. Evans dissects one of our fish for the grade 3 class at Wickaninnish Elementary School.  The kids are currently studying digestive systems and were amazed when a fur ball and a candied rat were extracted from the esophagus. Apparently the salmon had been tricker-treating the night before.

Creative Salmon assists the Westerly News in their "salute to the brave firefighters in our community for their tireless dedication to keeping us safe", by sponsoring a fireman in the local news paper. Among the volunteers at the local fire hall are Tim Rundle and Jesse Baril, both employees of Creative Salmon. Tim has worked for Creative Salmon for over 12 years and is the companies Senior Biologist / Operations Manager. Jesse has been with the company for five and a half years and is the Deckhand / part time Skipper of the company's landing craft.

Creative Salmon becomes an “Adopt a Junior” by making a donation to the BC Surf Association to help send 7 local surfers to the World Junior Championships in Huntington Beach California. 300 kids from 29 countries participated in the event.

Creative Salmon contributes to a fund raising campaign organized by Opitsaht resident Catherine Frank. Her daughter, Marissa Amos, has been chosen to participate in World Fest 2005 in Orlando Florida. Marissa will be competing in both Acting and Modeling categories.

Tla-o-qui-aht First Nations co-ed basket ball tournament. The tournament is being organized by Nellie Atleo and her family in memory of their grandfather, the late Shorty Frank. Shorty was actively involved in First Nations politics and well known for organizing sporting events for youth in his community.
