At Creative Salmon we are committed to protect the environment in which we operate.  This is demonstrated through an adaptive management approach that addresses environmental concerns.

 For example:

  • Creative Salmon was an industry leader by implementing an Environmental Monitoring Program, the first of its kind on the coast.  This program was in place before government regulations.  These regulations now reflect some of the highest standards in the world.  One of our farm sites was selected as an intensive research site for study to help develop new performance based standards for the management of salmon farms in BC

  • Creative Salmon was one of the first companies to use underwater cameras to monitor feeding and fish behavior.  This ensures the fish are fed properly and that feed waste is kept to a minimum.  Every fish pen is monitored during every meal by skilled staff.

  • Environmental impacts are minimized by following a site-fallowing plan.  We only operate four of our six farm sites at any one time.  This allows us to rotate between sites and provides for fallow periods of up to several years.  Even active sites have fallow periods of 3 to 4 months between stockings.  The fallowing plan is guided by results of our environmental monitoring program and allows the sea floor to return to its natural condition.

  • No antifoulants are used on nets. Net cleaning is achieved by power washing with seawater or by natural means (such as exposure to natural ultraviolet - sunshine!)
